Sails

I purchased my sails (jib and main) from Kinder Industries. I paid roughly $1400US for mine. These are the sails used by most of the sailors in North America.

I don't yet have a spinnaker. I'll probably have to buy one from the UK, but I'll be looking around this summer. Most people sail with an 18.5 square metre spinnaker. When the wind is lighter and the experience level is higher people pull out the 22 square metre spinnakers.

If you are interested in the details of sail theory, modeling using Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis, and design, check out "An Explanation of Sail Flow Analysis". Commercial products for analysis (CFX and FLUENT) and production (Sail Science) give a glimpse into the process of sail design and production. Lots of partial differential equations and other advanced calculus to keep you busy there.
